What design developments have you and your team been seeing?

Customization. We specialize in thoughtful problem solving to arrive at the best solution that supports the ways our clients want to live in their space. From windows to washing machines to wallpaper, there are new options cropping up all the time to make that bespoke solution possible. We’re seeing more personalized designs and less designing for imaginary “future owners.” Great outdoor spaces (think shade structures and outdoor kitchens), maximizing natural light and integration with the outdoors are all huge as well.

How do I get the most our of working with a designer?

It may sound odd, but vulnerability. The key to a successful partnership with a designer is trust. It works best when you honestly and clearly communicate your goals, actively participate throughout design, and trust your designer’s expertise. Designers want everything to be perfect … for you. So the more we know about you, your needs and your preferences, and the more you trust us, the better.

Is there really a difference between design-build and using an architect and a contractor?

The differences between a design-build firm and the architect-and-contractor model come down to continuity and accountability. Design-build leverages construction expertise throughout the design process to guarantee feasibility of designs and accurate pricing during development. During construction, designers are on hand to see that the details are executed as the project is being built. An integrated team means nothing is lost in translation, because as I said earlier, designers want everything to be perfect … for you.
